Transforming Telford Ltd - Overview

Hull Forward Hull Forward

Hull Forward, the Economic Development Company for Hull, was launched on 1 April 2008. Its ambition is to be the catalyst that transforms Hull into a global economic player. It will build on the success of Hull Citybuild, Hull's former Urban Regeneration Company, named Regeneration Organisation of the Year in 2007.

Hull Citybuild operated from 2002 until 2008 and in that time both the company and Hull in general made significant strides forward in terms of economic and physical regeneration. Hull Forward will accelerate this further, improving performance and delivery for the benefit of the city.

Key achievements of Hull Citybuild, which form the platform of Hull Forward's work, include:

  • The establishment and adoption of the City Centre Masterplan, a framework for the city's physical regeneration which has secured over £727m of planned investment.

  • The development of a prime office core, Humber Quays, leading to a rise in rental values by 40%.

  • Establishing World Trade Centre Hull & Humber in Humber Quays, Hull's International trade district.

  • Growing the city's much lauded 'Bondholder' scheme by in excess of 100%, ensuring over 135 businesses are plugged into and act as ambassadors for the city's ambitious regeneration plans.

  • Playing a major role in the development of a major new retail-led scheme, St Stephen's and Paragon Interchange, which has transformed Hull City Centre, providing 2,500 new jobs.

  • Identifying three growth sectors for the city's economic development activity; ports and value added logistics, healthcare technologies and renewable energy -which have been endorsed by partners city-wide.

  • Enabling the development of Hull's historic Fruit Market which will attract £100m+ of private sector investment.

  • Enabling the development of the East Bank of the River Hull, including a new 136 bed Premier Inn hotel and the development of a new iconic footbridge for the city.

  • Hull Forward's role:

  • With a city-wide remit, Hull Forward will expand on Hull Citybuild's nationally acclaimed work to form the foundations of the city's future.

  • Accelerate Hull's economic development by driving forward its three key growth sectors - Ports & Value Added Logistics, Healthcare Technologies and Renewable Energy.

  • Establish new relationships to secure investment into the city and will always be the first point of contact for investor enquiries.

  • Continue to grow relationships with its current business base to enable their expansion and to ensure all opportunities are maximised.

  • Transform Hull City Centre into a thriving destination with world-class business, visitor and leisure facilities, quality homes and public amenities.

  • Through World Trade Centre Hull & Humber, a hub for international trade and investment will be created, putting Hull on the global stage.
