Bradford is being transformed through an ambitious renaissance, which is creating a distinct identity for the District and unlocking its potential from its core. Iconic new landmarks will complement revived historical buildings, as it becomes a desirable place to live, work and play.
Working closely with its public sector partners, Bradford Centre Regeneration (BCR) is the urban regeneration company spearheading the city's transformation. It is helping to bring investors to the city, create jobs, and develop and diversify the economy of the city centre.
In 2003 Will Alsop developed an ambitious Masterplan, which is now being turned into a workable reality.
Bradford Centre Regeneration is focusing on the following tasks:
It is leading on, and promoting city centre development projects and investment. It is securing private sector investment to unlock development opportunities and economic development. It is securing resources from the public sector, including European funds and fiscal incentives which will have an positive impact on the delivery of renewal and investment It continues to influence and advise the Council, Yorkshire Forward, the Homes and Communities Agency and others on their policies and programmes for physical regeneration in the city centre.
Key schemes already completed in the city centre include the £22m Gatehaus residential development, the £12m restoration of Eastbrook Hall and the first phase of the £70m residential development at Victoria Mills near Shipley.
Schemes currently on site or in planning in the city centre include Westfield's Broadway Shopping Centre, the Learning Quarter and New Victoria Place.
