Derby Cityscape Derby Cityscape

Derby Cityscape Ltd was formally launched on 15 July 2003, after being set up and promoted by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). The urban regeneration company is supported jointly by Derby City Council, East Midlands Development Agency and the Homes and Communities Agency.

Following comprehensive consultation involving local communities, public sector agencies, Derby City Council, businesses, landowners and developers the Derby Cityscape Masterplan was developed and launched in January 2005.

Moving Forward

Since the launch of the Masterplan Derby has already attracted a number of major investments as part of the long term commitment to attract more than £2 bn worth of investment into the city's' centre.

By building strong relationships with both private and public sector partners a holistic approach to regeneration and growth will be achieved in the long term.

Opportunity

The Masterplan is based around a 15 year delivery schedule which will bring a variety of uses into the city centre. Attracting a series of public and private development projects into the central area is an important step in the delivery process to secure significant and lasting benefits to Derby.

Residential - around 5000 new homes, including 'City Living' apartments to family homes, are proposed within the Masterplan

Commercial Office - In excess of 1.4 million ft² of key sites have been identified with the city centre supported by improved infrastructure, offering excellent links by road, rail and air

Retail- With the £340m investment in the region's largest shopping centre - Westfield Derby, improvements are also being made to the niche retail sector in the Cathedral Quarter. There are expanding retail opportunities throughout the city

Cultural, leisure and tourism - Major opportunities for 4 and 5 star hotels and leisure developments. Current developments include QUAD - Derby's new visual arts and media centre, a new boutique hotel in the Cathedral Quarter and Riverlights

Public Spaces - £100m of investment in improving public open spaces within Derby's city centre including key sites such as the area surrounding UNESCO World Heritage Site, the historic market place, the Spot - main entrance to the Westfield Derby shopping centre and re-enforcing the city's link with the river Derwent.
