Sunderland arc was established in 2002 and its detailed proposals for Wearside and strategic landmark sites cover the arc's 15-year lifespan. The aim of them is clear: to create a high quality, vibrant, living and working environment for the city of Sunderland.
Together with its partners Sunderland City Council, One North East and Homes and Communities Agency, Sunderland arc has provided the infrastructure and investment framework for the creation of 11,700 jobs, 333,000 square metres of new business paces and 4,000 new homes, covering more than 300 hectares of brownfield land.

Sunderland arc's geographical area covers 542 ha (1,340 acres) along the banks of the River Wear and the city centre.
Its targets are 11,700 new jobs, 330,000 sq m of new business space, 4,000 new homes, regenerating more than 300 ha (741 acres) of brownfield land.
The Vaux site alone has the potential to deliver £370m of investment.
The historic area of Sunniside has attracted more than £90 million of private investment since 2003, way ahead of its £130m target over 15 years.
